Charity Tuesday: Help break a knitting world record AND raise money for Alzheimer’s Research

Calling all crafters! This Charity Tuesday, find out how you can help to smash a world record and raise money for Alzheimer’s Research UK!

Did you know, there is a World Record for the longest line of soft toys? Did you know that the current World Record is 1000 soft toys?

Libby Swindells, a Sheltered Scheme Manager from Altrincham, is requesting that knitted, crocheted, felted, and sewn snakes are created and sent in so the current World Record can be beaten. All the toys created for the event will then be sold and 100% of the funds will go to Alzheimer’s Research UK.

This isn’t the first time that Libby has taken on a huge crafting feat in aide of a charity. Three years ago she raised over £10,000 for dementia charities by organising the creation of over 14,000 mice, made by crafters worldwide!

She is a knitter herself and said; “I’m really excited about this new challenge. I hope people everywhere will join in and help us make as many snakes as possible.” On 9th April 2017 the world record attempt will take place, with the snakes displayed in a mandala shape at Altrincham Football Ground.

You might be wondering how you can get involved! Libby has provided free crochet and knitting patterns for the snakes which you can find here;

You are very welcome to use your own pattern. The only request is that the finished snake be no longer than 20 inches.

The finished snakes should be sent to;

Wellgreen Lodge, Wellfield Lane, Hale, Greater Manchester, WA15 8NW

Libby, and more information about the campaign, can be found on Facebook here.

Alzheimer’s Research UK relies on donations to fund their dementia research, so if you want to donate instead of creating a snake you can do so by visiting www.alzheimersresearchuk.org or calling 0300 111 5555.
