Once upon a time and several years ago, I lived in Dublin. The city is a hotbed of culture, history, and entertainment, and I loved every second that I lived there. From ancient cathedrals to whiskey breweries, Dublin has a little bit of something for everyone.

While I lived there, I got the opportunity to attend the amazing St. Patrick’s Day parade in central Dublin, and it was a spectacle I won’t soon forget. But when I wasn’t attending huge parties in the city center, I was hiking and trying to find small pockets of serenity. This one, seen here, was my favorite.

Just looking at that photo, I can almost hear the water rushing and feel the breeze on my skin. That is a tiny little riverwalk in Dublin 6, about a 20 minute walk from where I lived. Still, I don’t live there anymore, so I have to keep up my Irish spirit (from many generations of Irish ancestry) in other ways – like this shamrock hat knitting pattern.

This hat is sized to fit an average adult head, and is suited for an intermediate knitter or an adventurous beginner. The hat is knit from the bottom up in the round on circular needles. You need to know how to increase, decrease, and knit through the back loop. the unique texture is created by looping yarn around stitches to make it slouch.

When you’re done, you’re left with a hat that looks very impressive and complicated. The subtle design means that you can wear this hat all year round, not just at St. Patrick’s Day.

The designer recommends Cascade 220 Superwash in Celery for this hat, and you’ll only need one skein to make this hat. Cascade 220 yarn on LoveKnittingClick this image to view all available shades of Cascade 220 Superwash yarn

You could, of course, knit this hat in any color to suit you. I love Celery, but I think Green Apple (802) would look better with my complexion.
