Great yarns for homeware!
When you’re knitting for your home, you need to use yarn that will last, and last, and last! Merion finds you some yarn that will look great and wear well!
Filling your home with hand made knits is the perfect opportunity to choose yarn that is both hardwearing and beautiful! It might be very important to you that your home knits are washable, and this is particularly important for blankets and cushion covers, or nursery accessories. You may have sensitivities to wool or other animal fibres, and prefer acrylics, or you may only want to fill your house with natural fibres.
Bergere de France Recyclaine is made from the recycled fibres of their own yarns, and comes in nine natural shades. It’s a super chunky yarn, knitted on 9mm needles, which is perfect for speedy homeware! This beautiful blanket will knit up super fast, and would look gorgeous thrown over your sofa, or used in the garden for picnics!
Paintbox Yarns’ patterns are always free, and there are some fun homeware ideas! This gorgeous, washable, chunky acrylic comes in 60 shades, and is brilliantly affordable so you can knit this gorgeous striped throw in the colours that will complement your decor!
The Hoooked yarns are great fun to knit – and work up super fast, so they are perfect if you want to change your accessories in a hurry! This free cushion pattern is simple to knit and you’ll only need two balls of Ribbon XL Solids!
Lion Brand is great for homeware. A perfect cotton yarn in a worsted weight that knits into handy dishcloths, place mats, and towels, Lion Brand Kitchen Cotton is designed for kitchen use, and is safe in the washing machine and dryer! I love these gorgeous Luncheon Mats, designed with mosaic stitches – such an easy colour work method using slipped stitches!
How many times have you needed to knit new home gift, quickly? Lion Brand Heartland Thick & Quick is just the yarn for the job – in nine rich shades inspired by the American landscape, you’ll be able to find a colour that’s perfect! This Herringbone Cushion is a perfect gift! It will knit up super fast in this luscious super chunky yarn!
The felting technique is fabulous for homeware! Felted cushions and bowls, table mats, baskets, there’s no end to the fun. The process is very simple – first you need to make sure you have a 100% wool yarn, you knit your project (oversized and loosely), and then put it in the washing machine on a hot wash (with an old towel, or something to aid agitation). When the cycle is finished, your project will have shrunk by 30-40% (hence the need to knit it large!).
Lana Grossa Feltro is an ideal yarn for felting! It’s chunky weight, in a roving style, and will knit up fast! There are 36 shades, and it knits on 8mm needles. Try knitting a 15cm x 15 cm square and felting it in the machine for a perfect pot holder or pan stand!
