Sock club: Child’s Knit Two Color Socks

Quick to knit, this week’s sock club features a FREE pattern for toddlers and little children!

Toddler socks are a great way to try out new techniques. Knit in the round, this free child’s sock pattern uses a short row heel to create two-colour socks. Using a contrast colour for the cuff, heel and toe of each sock is a great way to make the most of a small amount of yarn and will also help maintain the stripe pattern when using a multi-coloured yarn.

Offered for free by the Lion Brand yarn company, this pattern’s catchy name is Knit Child’s Two Color Socks. It’s available in sizes 2-3 years, 4 years and 5 years but would be easy to alter to fit larger or smaller feet by casting on more or fewer stitches, or using a thicker or thinner yarn.

Available in 32 shades, Lion Brand Wool Ease is a hard-wearing acrylic/wool blend. The yarn is machine washable, and can even be tumble dried, making it ideal for baby gifts. As a knitter, discovering a gift is too precious to wear is always disappointing, so if you make these to give away be sure to include the (easy!) washing instructions.  We love, from left to right, below:  Ranch Red (102), Pumpkin (199), Gold (171), Avocado (174), Blue Heather (107) and Eggplant (167).
