Support breast cancer and knit a Big Tea Cosy!
There’s nothing we Brits love more than tea and cake – so why not have a tea party and support a breast cancer charity at the same time?
If you are suffering from breast cancer, you need tailored, individual advice to help you – practical, emotional and physical support to make such a frightening time easier to bare.
The Haven is a national charity for breast cancer sufferers that offers free advice from trained professional nurses, therapists, counsellors and advisors who can help you with practical things like money and work, coping with stress, exhaustion and nausea, advice on healthy eating and exercise – and above all, someone to talk to about your deepest fears.
The Haven centres are just about as different from hospitals as you could imagine – designed to provide warmth, comfort and safety – somewhere you can find all the help you need in a beautiful, relaxing environment. There are Haven centres around the UK, with more opening – but they need your help to raise money to open more local centres!
This year’s fundraiser is “The Big Tea Cosy” – a fun week of tea parties where you can get together with tea, cake (and probably your knitting) to raise money to support new Haven centres! All the details are available on The Haven’s website here.
Of course, you’ll be needing a tea cosy pattern and some yarn! Last year we published a fun Valentine’s teacosy pattern with an intarsia heart in the middle – super easy to knit, and very fast to make because it’s knitted in super chunky yarn!
Or, if you prefer a simpler tea cosy, follow our brilliant tutorial Learn with Leanne and create a chunky tea cosy with a pom pom!
If you fancy something a little more complex, we have gazillions of tea cosy patterns for you to download!
This Cupcake Tea Cosy is great fun, from BuzyBee, perfect for the tea party theme! Knitted in sport or 4ply weight yarn, it’s more delicate than our super chunky cosies, but will keep you pot just as warm!
Love colourwork? We love this fabulous fair isle tea cosy by Sian Brown, knitted in aran weight yarn (Bergere de France Sport is an aran weight yarn that comes in over 15 shades, but any aran yarn will do!)
Do have a cup of tea and piece of cake for The Haven during The Big Tea Cosy, and don’t forget to post pics of your tea party on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram! You can use the hashtags #thebigteacosy #breastcancerhaven #thehaven so that everyone can see the fun!
