The Yarn Collective announces Portland Lace by Melanie Berg
We are so excited to share the announcement of Portland Lace, The Yarn Collective’s first line of gorgeous hand-dyed merino wool yarn!
The Yarn Collective is a new fibre and design company working with some of the best independent designers to bring truly beautiful artisan yarns to the market, alongside inspiring and gorgeous patterns. They are working with three designers who represent the best in modern knitting design, starting with Melanie Berg. Melanie has curated a stunning range of colours in this lace-weight line called Portland Lace.
The ten colours in the Portland Lace line were selected by Melanie and taken from real-life inspiration such as Peruvian Skies and A Day in the Woods. Each skein is kettle dyed by hand in Peru by expert dyers. This process makes each skein truly unique, with beautiful shade variations throughout.
The merino wool used for this yarn is extremely soft and comfortable. It reacts to changes in body temperature, making it great for any season. The soft handle makes this yarn perfect for all styles of knitting and crochet, and the spun thread has just enough twist to prevent pilling while still allowing the fabric to softly drape.
The Secretkeeper Lace Shawl, which encapsulates Melanie’s unique style, was developed exclusively for the launch of Portland Lace. She “chose a pattern that uses garter stitch on one side and a beautiful lace pattern on the other to showcase how this yarn works for both. The hand-dye effect adds a certain depth to the pattern which is just lovely! The pattern is called Secretkeeper for sometimes knitting can feel like weaving in little secrets into the fabric as you go.” You can download the pattern here.
You can see the Portland Lace lookbook here; and as if this fantastic yarn isn’t enough, new lines from two other talented designers will be announced in the coming weeks. Can you guess who they might be, or what kind of yarns they might reveal? Stay tuned to the blog and follow #theyarncollective on social media to be the first to find out!
