Charity Tuesday – Egg Cosies for Hen Retirement!
Egg cosies are such an easy knit, and as it turns out, also a very popular fundraising project! This week in Charity Tuesday we’ll take a look at how you can help raise money to support hens. Yes, hens!
Corine Hendrie, who works for the The British Hen Welfare Trust, said “Our supporter’s egg cosies go down so well at shows and, more importantly, bring in lots of donations to help us save more hens. There are thousands of hens eagerly awaiting their free range retirement this year so there will be plenty of eggs needing to be kept warm and comfortable. We encourage you to be as crazy and colourful as possible with your creations!”
The Welfare Trust has helped to rehome over 575,000 hens since 2005, sending them off to retire as pets with loving homes after a career as a commercial egg layer. They also educate people on how they can help hens by changing their eating habits. We have a ton of amazing patterns here, so after you make up some cosies you can send them to: The British Hen Welfare Trust, Hope Chapel, Rose Ash, South Molton, EX36 4RF, United Kingdom
Here’s a great pattern to get started with!
