Karie Westermann and her knitwear picks
This week, we asked the fabulous Karie Westermann about her favorite knitwear and selfish knitting picks – and they definitely don’t disappoint!
Karie Westermann is an independent knitwear designer, tutor, and general wool enthusiast. Originally from Denmark, she now lives in Glasgow, Scotland. Her work draws strongly upon her Nordic roots and her passion for story-telling. Her stunning collection of knitwear accessories is not only accessible but incredibly inspirational, and we can’t wait to get our hands on more of these patterns. Karie says:
After a long season thinking about small projects for gift knitting, I am eager to sink my teeth into something bigger just for myself. The Byatt shawl is the perfect post-holiday knitting project: it is a surprisingly relaxing knit and I love that it allows me to combine colours nobody else would think of wearing! My gift-knitting tends towards neutral and safe colours, so I crave colour as much as a big, selfish knitting project.
And then I need to cast on a garment for myself. I’ve had my eye on Kate Heppell’s Caramia pattern ever since I first saw it. It is a chunky, seamless knit which means it’ll knit up in no time (I’d probably spend more time plotting the colour scheme than I would knitting it!). I love Icelandic yoke jumpers – and the chevron-style yoke on Caramia is just so effortlessly stylish.
Thanks, Karie! Your knitwear picks this season are inspirational and gorgeous, as we knew they would be.
