Knit by Bit: free cabled mug cozy knitting pattern

Last week, we learned a simple cable for a pair of wintery mitts. This week, take the intermediate cable challenge with this free cabled mug cozy knitting pattern.

In the dead of winter, I crave a little brightness. I crave the bright pops of color from flowers in the field and the smell of freshly mowed grass. I love the crisp greys of winter, but sometimes I find myself daydreaming of beaches. I try to channel that into my knitting projects – after all, what’s the point of making something for yourself if you don’t love it?

I’m a hot drink addict – tea, coffee, hot chocolate – you name it, I love it. I have a collection of mugs that’s always growing, but sometimes I find myself wishing it would stay hot just a little longer. I am famous for leaving cups of tea around until they get cold, having forgotten about them.

For this project, I grabbed some Spud & Chloe Outer yarn out of my stash. The Sunkissed shade brightened my day, and I knew it would brighter up my mugs too. It’s a super chunky yarn with a generous yardage, so you could make a whole set of these mug cozies with just one skein.

Materials:

One skein of Spud & Chloe Outer yarn in any shade (the pictured shade is Sunkissed)

8 mm (US 11) single pointed needles

8 mm (US 11) double pointed needles (for the i-cord button loop)

One yarn needle

One cable needle
