Create your own Collections on the LoveKnitting app!

Merion loves the new feature on the LoveKnitting app! Organise your pattern library with your own Collections!

I have been uploading patterns to my LoveKnitting app with gusto lately, with the addition of a few free patterns and a very lovely crochet shawl from The Crochet Project – and it’s been great to be able to load both knitting and crochet projects and keep track of what I’m working on. I always have several WIPs on the go, and the app has really helped me manage my progress – which means I don’t have my old problem of finding an old WIP in a bag and wondering where on earth I had got to!

The newest feature on the app is all about organisation, but is actually great fun for compulsive knitters! You can now group your patterns into Collections and organise your pattern library!  This means I have been able to group my patterns into crochet, knitting, and – at the last count, I have created a collection of accessories for my socks and gloves patterns, a collection for WIPs and a collection for my aspirational dream patterns too! (Does anyone else do this? Just gaze at patterns for future use?)

Chatting with other crafters here at LK HQ, we’ve been comparing notes about what we’ve created collections for…. some people have a “completed projects” collection, and another for WIPs – some people are very scientific and have collections for favourite designers and favourite yarn weights – the list of possibilities is endless.

The process of creating a Collection is simple – when you launch the app, and you choose the “My Library” icon, you will see that on the top right-hand corner of each pattern there is a little blue square.  When you click that little blue square, you can choose the “Add new collection” button at the bottom of the screen, to create a new Collection – or, if you’ve already created a few Collections, you can choose from the Collections showing below:

Collections demo

Note the little blue square at the top right of the patterns – when you click it – you can then choose a collection!

If you’re making your first collection, or you want to add collections, there is an option at the bottom of the screen to “Add a collection”. If you want to rename a collection – you choose the Edit option from the top of the Collection, click on the little pencil icon in the top right corner and follow the renaming prompts.

Renaming your collection

It’s worth noting too, that you can overlap your patterns and have them in more than one collection – so my dream cardi can live in my Dream Patterns section, AND once I’ve started it, I can also put it in my WIP Collection – and hopefully one day, move it to my Completed Projects Collection!

If you love ordering your stash and keeping tabs on all your knitting activities, you’ll love this! If like me, you’re a bit disorganised, it will help you keep track of what you’re working on and not forget the WIPs that are possibly squashed to the back of your stash cupboard!

Still undecided? Read my rave reviews about it here, and here!

This sounds great Merion I have patterns here there and everywhere!

However I am really frustrated because I don’t have an apple iPhone etc. I know that you guys have said that the Android version is coming soon but I feel that this is never going to happen. I understand that development of this type of programming takes time however I would like to know if the app for android will be happening?

    Thanks Audrey

  2. Tineke Powell says:

Still can’t work out how to delete patterns? How do I do this?

  3. Gypsy says:

I’d like to know if I can add my own patterns to the app yet please? Now that would be brilliant for me!

    • Margaret says:

This app is of very little use unless it is possible to download patterns from other sources.
Where are the ‘little blue squares’ on the ‘my library’ downloads.

  4. Kay Luna says:

I have patterns everywhere! I wish I could consolidate them to one place. I love the app.

  5. Angela Weber says:

Where’s the app for Android?!?! It’s very frustrating to hear how great this is, but then I can’t get access. Android is a much better platform, why would you start with iPhone first?

    • Louisa Koenig says:

Agreed. I cannot tell you how frustrating this is, to hear about some app that you coud REALLY USE, and then to find out that apparently you’re a second class citizen because you don’t have the money to spend on an Apple product.

  6. JL says:

Can I download the patterns that I already have to the app?

  7. Evelyn says:

I have this app, but do not find it useful for any patterns purchased from other sites. Is there a way to transfer these patterns over?

  8. Sandra Davis says:

Can one add old patterns from knitting books, pamphlets, etc., via photographing them? Anyway, I have Android so I will also have to wait. Hmmm. Can you also make this software for the Mac or PC?

  9. Gill Costin says:

I agree with Tineke. I would like to delete some patterns but can’t work out how. Please tell me!

  10. Penny Haswell says:

I have a great deal of sympathy for android users – but at least Loveknitting says ‘Android coming soon’. What about Windows users – not a mention and when asked Customer Service say that the tech dept will be consulted to see if they can do it! Come on Loveknitting, wake up there are a lot of us out there and it’s poor service .

  11. Ann Skipper says:

I am sure lots of people like myself don’t have ipads or iphones, when are you going to have an app for all us other people? this is frustrating.

  12. Mary Wilson says:

I myself like many others do not own or cannot afford an IPhone. The App looks very good and I too would be interested in the Android App. Have you any news as to when this will be available please?
