How to Make the Most of the January Sale!

The January Sale is almost upon us! What kind of shopper are you? Merion’s been having a rummage to find out what’s in the sale to give you a headstart!

Hands up, who loves a yarn sale? Come on, we’re all friends here! We all love a yarn sale! This year, having had a little early peek, there are some fabulous bargains to be had and I thought I’d give you a few pointers before we start!

Knitters shop in different ways! You might know your yarn weights and yardage well enough to be able to buy 8 balls of something with the rough idea of a cardigan in mind, or are you the kind of knitter that will stick to the tried-and-tested 4 balls scarf plan? Or do you need a pattern before you even dip your toe in the sale waters?

WYS Aire Valley Aran

First Frost

Use WYS Aire Valley Aran for any aran weight pattern! We love Heidi Kirrmaier’s First Frost!

If you haven’t discovered West Yorkshire Spinners yarns yet, you’re in for treat. This great value aran comes in a 10 solid shades and some variegated striped shades too – soft on the hand, and an injection of nylon means this woolly blend is machine-washable making it a must for favorite sweaters and cardigans! The WYS yarn is ‘reared, sheared and spun’ within a local area in Yorkshire, and it really is a great every day yarn!

Just Yarn Mohair

diamond cowl

Magical mohair is such a treat to knit – silky clouds of lace weight yarn knitted on large needles produce the most exquisite lace! Just Yarns Mohair is a fabulous value silk mohair yarn that will be in the January Sale – and there are so many gorgeous patterns to use it for! I love the Diamond Mohair Cowl above by The Feminine Touch Designs!

King Cole Verona, Venice and Florence Chunky

shawl

This trio of Italian chunkies are perfect for scarves, shawls, hats, and garments – and any chunky weight pattern for homeware too! Deliciously variegated, these yarns have a gentle twist so they will highlight your stitches beautifully!

BC Garn Hamelton Tweed 1

Linnea tunic

In 23 shades of delicious aran weight tweed, BC Garn Hamelton Tweed 1 is yarn to buy up while it’s in the sale and drool over it for months afterwards! I’ve picked out this gorgeous Linnea Tunic pattern by SEAknitting because it’s just one of those super useful layers that you can pop over anything at all – perfect for the coming wintery months!

Having just de-cluttered and established a limited capsule wardrobe I’m not about to go crazy and buy yarn just because there is a discount. But having said that your generous discounts seem to coincide with my plans – is there something you are not telling me Merion and lovely LoveKnitting people???
How much do I buy? More than enough. And then I can be creative with whatever I have left over.
Love your Blog posts Merion! Happy Christmas to all at LoveKnitting! Liz C

I too have soo much wool and millions of ideas. Before Christmas I had a knitting frenzy making things for my granddaughter and new arrival grandson concluding with a homemade gift for my daughter. Now Christmas and New Year is over, onward and upward on to the next project!!!!!!

Oh Boy! Love the Linnea Tunic! That is definitely going into my que, even hopping over other projects for myself. Iā€™m still finishing Christmas knitting ā€” spent most of Dec. in the hospital (badly needed surgery, Iā€™m feeling MUCH better now!).

BC Garn Hamelton Tweed looks to be the answer to a search for an appropriate yarn I want to use for a cardi I want to make for my dear deserving Husband Bob, who has taken loving care of me for so long! Another que hopper!

Wonderful and knitterly New Year to one and all!

    Do you have yarn bowls?

  7. Alison says:

My stash has become so big I now have a Wool room. This used to be my sons room until he moved out, my daughter has just left home so the stash might be getting bigger. My husband has given up and his only comment when a parcel arrives is more Wool to add to the Wool mountain. I am like others I love to plan for future projects and buy the Wool. I now have a very good excuse to buy as we are going to be new Grandparents in March.

  8. Madeline says:

I am feeling a bit down at the moment, have sick husband, but all this lovely wool and the pattern’s have cheered me up. Happy New Year to all Knitter’s

  9. Jacquie says:

  10. Judith De Witt says:

  11. Diane says:
