Yarn Review: Patons Baby Smiles

Patons UK sent us the brand new Patons Baby Moments book and a collection of their beautiful new yarns, including their new Baby Smiles range and new shades. The Smiles team took to the couch to knit up a storm and try them out to give you the low down on their fave patterns and yarns!

“For special little ones, only the softest, safest and most adorable creations will do.”

As Patons so rightly put, knitting for those bundles of joy is a delight and we all want to make sure that whatever they wear isn’t going to irritate their skin. The new Baby Smiles pattern book features yarns that are made and uniquely tested to the highest quality and safety standards, making sure your creations are as kind to a baby’s skin as possible. They are also highly durable and washing machine friendly (thank goodness) so they really are a treat for little ones. Natascha, Sian, Marie and Julia pick out their favourite yarns and patterns from the collection…

The new lines on test:

From left to right: Patons Fairytale Merino Mix DKPatons Fairytale Dreamtime 4 Ply Baby SmilesPatons Fairytale Fab 4 PlyPatons Fairytale Fab DK and Patons Fairytale Fab Aran

Natascha’s favourite’s

Yarn- Fairytale Dreamtime 2ply

“This 2 Ply yarn is much stronger than it looks. I think it will be soft even with dribbly skin because it’s smooth; it wouldn’t irritate them.”

Pattern – Jacket Style 25

“I would make this pretty jacket in Patons Fairytale Fab DK in the Pale Pink shade or maybe even a Grey! I love the cabling detail and think it’s a real classic knit.”

Sian’s favourite’s

Yarn – Fairytale Merino Mix DK

“The yarn is soft even though its 50% wool and 50% Polyamide, I was expecting the wool content to make it feel scratchy but it knits up nicely and is really smooth.

Pattern – Socks style 13 A and matching College Jacket

“I’d make the Socks style 13 A and match it with the College Jacket, I would customize the letter according to whoever I made it for! It’s a great option for boys and for girls. I would make this in the Fairytale Merino Mix DK or in Fairytale Dreamtime 4ply in Turqouis (1065) and Apricot (1024).”

Marie’s favourite’s

Yarn – Fairytale Soft 3ply

“It’s by far the softest yarn out of them all for me, and I love soft yarn because I’m a big softie!

Pattern – Overalls style 18 B

“I would make the cute Overalls style 18 B in Fairytale Dreamtime 4ply in Apple Green. I just love little sleepy suits, they are too cute!”

Julia’s favourite’s

Yarn – Patons Baby Smiles Fairytale Dreamtime 4 Ply

“It’s the least irritating for babies and very soft, plus the 25g ball size is great for knitting for new babies – especially for doing stripes!”

Pattern – Striped Hat Style 10A

“I would make the  Striped hat style 10 A, it will just make babies heads’ look so cute”
